3RQ Partners with Ascend WV to Host Monongahela River Sweep

The Three Rivers QUEST (3RQ) Program housed at the West Virginia Water Research Institute has partnered with Ascend WV to host a Monongahela River Trash Sweep on June 20th, 2024, as part of Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission’s (ORSANCO) Ohio River Sweep Season. The Monongahela River Sweep helps to support 3RQ’s mission to preserve and promote the three rivers (Ohio, Monongahela, and Allegheny), alongside monthly sampling conducted by the program within the Upper Ohio River Basin.

The Monongahela River Trash Sweep will be held on West Virginia Day (Thursday, June 20th) as a way to promote citizens to give back to their home state. People may sign up for the event via this link. Volunteers can sign up for shifts from 9a-12p and/or 12-3p. Meet at the Hazel Ruby McQuain Park at the time of your shift. All volunteers who sign up prior to June 1st, will receive a free t-shirt from ORSANSO (as long as supplies last). Volunteers must be above the age of 18 or joined by a parent/guardian who meets the minimum age.
